Your AP scores are in! Do you need to change your registration?

The university will grant you credit for most AP exams if you have earned a 3 or better. To find out how your AP exam scores translate into University of Minnesota credits, check out the Admissions website. If your scores are not what you expected when you met with your adviser at orientation, you may need to change your registration.

You can check to see whether we have received and processed your scores by looking at your APAS report under "History of Coursework".

If you did not have your AP scores sent to the University of Minnesota you have two options. You can either have a score report sent directly from the College Board or you can bring your original score report to Admissions in 240 Williamson Hall.

A few notes about specific exams:

English Composition

If you did not earn a 3 or better on the Literature & Composition or the Language & Composition AP exam, make sure that you are registered for Freshman Composition for the fall or spring semester*.

Calculus

If you earned a 3 on the calculus AB or BC exam, you should consult with your CLA adviser about your registration if you are planning to continue with math. Although the University of Minnesota will grant credit for Math 1271 if you earn a 3, the Mathematics department recommends that students planning to continue on to higher levels begin in Math 1271.

If you earned a 1 or 2 on either calculus exam, you should take the math placement exam to determine which math course is most appropriate for you. If you need help accessing the placement exam please contact your adviser.

Remember, if you have any questions about your registration, ask your CLA adviser.

* Acceptable courses that fulfill the Freshman Composition requirement include EngC 1011, 1012, 1013, 1014, 1015, 1016, and Rhet 1101. Some students may be exempt from Freshman Composition based on national testing scores and high school performance. If you do not remember if you are exempt, ask your adviser.
